OPENING KEYNOTE – Sharing is Not a Fad: Let’s Make Open Education a Tradition

Affordable Learning PA may have had its first OER Summit in 2019, but open educational practices have persisted in Pennsylvania’s higher education institutions for many years. From open-source learning management systems to entire OER-focused departments and OER grants, it’s clear in PA that higher education’s responsibilities in sharing unique and helpful knowledge and expertise go beyond the physical and regional boundaries of each institution. Open education isn’t a fad, it’s what academia has done for a long time and will continue to do! In this session, Jeff Gallant (Program Director, Affordable Learning Georgia) will work with the Affordable Learning PA community to collectively build a set of options which could help OER advocates across the state make an already-burgeoning tradition of open education in PA more sustainable in the future.
